N004 Reuse the Tower [Architectural Competition Entry 2023]

This proposal focuses on restoring the Torre Rinalda to create a modern landmark for the region. Restoration unfolds in two phases: The first phase introduces a tripartite vertical arrangement inspired by Renaissance architecture. The existing structure, "Piano Terra", is complemented by an added "Piano Nobile", constructed from modern materials reflecting its era. The design culminates in the "Piano Spirituelle", a third level featuring lightweight metal and airy fabrics, optimizing sea breezes for users. Enhancements include a distinct staircase promoting vertical mobility, integrating an existing eastern staircase and allowing for a future elevator. This staircase hosts balconies at the Piano Nobile for relaxation, while the Piano Terra offers seating in contemporary materials for shade.

The second phase develops an open public space, fostering community and reviving the fortification tower network. An analogue distance design between Torre Rinalda and nearby towers is introduced, executed through minimalistic wooden passarellas. These pathways present historical context about the entire fortification network. Overall, the restoration envisions Torre Rinalda as a refreshed communal hub overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
